

Mr. George C. Patrikas, age 90, of Swampscott, died Saturday morning, February 23, 2013 with his family by his side after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Gari (Papatheofilopoulos) Patrikas.
Born in Lynn, George was the son of the late Costas and Eleni (Karapaksoglou) Patrikas. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1942. He began pursuing his degree in Art at Boston University prior to his enlistment. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and proudly served his country during World War II.
He was a member of the 99th General Hospital Organization and served as an Army Medic and Surgical Technician overseas. He was a recipient of the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
After the war, George became the Manager of Hour Glass Cleaners in Lynn, a position he held for over 35 years. He was a longtime active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and served as both a member of the Board and the Church Committee. In earlier years, he also sang in the church choir. George was known as “The Highlander” and was a supporter of his late friend, Harry Agganis, often sharing stories of their friendship growing up. He was especially proud of his attempt to better Harry at Checkers. George was also a member of the Friends of High Rock and the Civil War Round Table, taking part in their yearly trips to Virginia. He enjoyed bowling and golfing and was an avid Boston sports fanatic.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his two daughters, Elaine Patrikas and Beth Patrikas both of Salem. He was the brother of the late Theodore Patrikas and Eve Lezynski. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many who looked up to him as a father and friend.
George’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Service in St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Swampscott Cemetery. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-8PM.
