

Mr. George C. Thomas, 90, of Lynn, died on December 10, 2010. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia (Clifford) Thomas. Born in NH, he was the son of the late Percival and Mary Thomas. Devoted father of Mary Ann Fontaine and her husband Robert of Bethlehem, CT, Margaret Thomas of North Weymouth, and Virginia Koulopoulos and her husband John of Scituate. Loving grandfather of Kylynn and Robert Fontaine, Michael, Thomas and Kevin Koulopoulos.
He served in the Navy during the Neutrality Patrol, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He served on two aircraft carriers, two battleships, a cruiser, a destroyer, a dock landing ship and an icebreaker. His ship was torpedoed off Guadalcanal during WWII. He served in the Arctic and Antarctic and participated in the International Geophysical Year. He retired as a lieutenant commander. He was a Ship Superintendent/Inspection Officer on 15 ships, including naval surface ships, submarine and merchant ships. He was employed by General Electric, General Dynamics, Raytheon and Boston Edison in engineering and management positions.
Memorial Visitation in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn on Monday 9 AM to 10 AM, followed by a Memorial Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn at 10:30 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Attn: Gift Processing, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
