

Mrs Geraldine (“Gerry” or “Sis”) (Murphy) Higgins died peacefully at the Life Care Center of the North Shore and was returned to her heavenly home on February 21st, 2015. She lived in Lynn her entire life. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her lifelong and ultimately gave her peace.
Gerry married her best friend, the late John Higgins to whom she was married 49 years. John & Gerry enjoyed many years of dancing, golfing and going to Anna Maria Island, FL in the winter.
Gerry was born to the late Geraldine (Cotter) and William Murphy. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1943 and worked at General Electric in Lynn until she had her family.
Gerry was immersed in the Catholic community that would be her lifelong support. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield where she attended Mass daily and acquired many close friends. She also worked for Kindercare for 10 years. Gerry enjoyed volunteering at My Brother’s Table with her husband John, who was one of the original founders. She also enjoyed painting. Gerry was a kind, loving person and a loyal friend.
Gerry is survived by her daughter Patricia of Plymouth MA and Boynton Beach FL; her daughter-in-laws Susan Thomson and Susan Pomerantz; her granddaughter Jessica Doherty; a great grand-daughter Lilah Joy Doherty and a great grandson Avory Smith. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret “Peg” Hanagan of Nahant and her sister-in-law Joanne Higgins of Salem. Gerry is also survived by 14 nieces & nephews as well as 32 grand nieces & nephews. She was also the devoted mother of the late Michael Higgins and sister of the late William H Murphy, Jr. who died in World War II.
Gerry will be dearly missed by all of her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is now at peace with her creator.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visitation at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 Grove St. Lynnfield on Wednesday, February 25 at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. Burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn, will be private. The family gratefully declines flowers.
