

Born on March 13, 1933 to the late Joseph and Jane (Merlet) Keefe of Pittsfield, MA. Helen grew up in Pittsfield and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. She worked as a research assistant at MIT before starting a career in teaching. Helen taught at Brockton High School before starting a family and later taught at Breed Junior High in Lynn and Immaculate Conception School in Everett. Helen finished her career working several positions at General Electric in Lynn from which she retired.
Helen enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and solving Sudoku puzzles. She was an accomplished bridge player and would often play with Leda Barr and her son who was a professional bridge player. She liked to watch her husband coach football and her son’s play sports. She also enjoyed shopping with her daughter.
Helen was a big supporter of Wyoma little league, East Lynn Pop Warner and St. Pius CYO basketball. She was a devout Catholic and attended services at Saint Pius V Church.
Helen is the devoted mother of Brian Gildea (Martha) of Dublin, Ireland, Kathleen Gildea Hunter (Lindsey) of Apex, NC, Robert Gildea (Betty) of Mocksville, NC and Kevin Gildea of Chicago, IL; the cherished grandmother of Allison Gildea of Providence RI, Ryan Gildea of Pawtucket, RI, and Stephen Gildea of Dublin, Ireland; and the loving sister of Jean Loehr of Lady Lake FL and Carolyn Bienich of Phoenix, AZ.
Friends and family are invited to attend Helen’s visitation on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. A graveside service will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
