Hugh “Hughie” J. McCullock, age 71, of Chelsea, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Kaplan Family Hospice House. Hugh was comforted by his long time childhood friend, Allen Cooper, of Salem, Massachusetts. Hugh had battled cancer for the last 12 years of his life and succumbed to lung cancer.
Hugh was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts to the late, Hugh and Veronica "Peachy" McCullock. Hugh was Veronica’s third child. Robert Wisocky, Hugh's younger brother, always said growing up, “He was on the go, and you could never catch him home.” Hugh was an open minded guy and as Allen Cooper put it, a “free spirit.”
Hugh belonged to a Biker group called, Boston Chapter, in his earlier years. He loved riding his beloved Harley whenever he could. Hugh also had a great eye for drawing and sketching, just about anything he set out to draw with incredible talent. Hugh was also musically inclined. He took pleasure in playing the guitar in a few local bands and also landed a few gigs with the Chosen Few and the Odyssey.
Hugh enjoyed photography. One thing about Hugh was he always needed the latest equipment to do his job. Whether it was the latest drill, the best camera, or a developing studio in his home. He made sure he was current with the times. Hugh went full hearted into his passions. He took no short cuts.
Hugh also had a lifelong career as being a self-taught carpenter. He spent his last three years trying to finish his daughter, Keyrne’s house. Sadly, he couldn’t finish it. Hugh worked at Century 21 with Jimmy Damico, remodeling houses in Chelsea. He took great pride in producing one of a kind finish works for the projects he worked on. He built every project like he was building it for his own home. Hugh took great pride and left no stone unturned in his projects.
Hugh once said to his son, Shawn McCullock, “Heaven isn’t ready for me and Hell is afraid I’ll install air conditioners". Hugh is survived by his three brothers, Richard McCullock of Everett, George McCullock of Revere, and Robert Wisocky of Salisbury.
