Irene Angeline Nelson

Nelson, Irene A. (Hamel), life-long resident of Lynn, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 in the Abbott House in Lynn, she was 99. Born in Lynn on March 24, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Phillippe and Rose (Paquette) Hamel. Irene was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School with the Class of 1933. She met and married her sweetheart, Harold P. Nelson in May of 1935. The couple spent over 64 years in marriage together raising and caring for their family until Harold’s passing in December of 2001. Irene was a dedicated wife and mother and enjoyed reading as well, but her true passion was being a doting grandmother. Irene is survived by her children, Frederic H. Nelson of Lynn, Eleanor I. Blaney of Lynn, and the late Thomas F. Nelson, her 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren as well as many brothers, sisters, and step-brothers and step-sisters. Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. LYNN on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple St. Lynn at 11:15 AM. Interment will follow in St. Jean Cemetery, Lynn. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 4 to 8 PM.
