

Born and raised in Revere, Jim was the son of the late John and Sarah (Better) Gallagher. He graduated from Boston College where he played football. Following graduation, Jim honorably served his country in the US Navy during WWII, being stationed in New Guinea. Jim returned to the North Shore and worked for his family’s oil company. He met the love of his life, Doris Durgan in Point of Pines at a function. Together, they shared over 40 years of companionship. He was a friend of Bill W. where he did a lot of good for people. Jim had his pilot’s license and enjoyed spending time at Beverly Airport. He was a cheerful and friendly man with a great sense of humor. Jim enjoyed spending time on the ocean and summers on Plum Island.
Jim is survived by his companion, Doris Durgan of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Gallagher, Leo Gallagher, Dr. William Gallagher, Fr. Robert Gallagher, Mary Ancelone and Millie Armstrong.
Jim’s Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn on Friday at 9AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell Street, Peabody at 10AM. Burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8PM.
