

Age 75 of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at his home, with his family by his side. He was born on December 2, 1940 in Lynn, the son of the late, James V. and Arleen V. (Shippee) Gannon. He was raised and educated in Swampscott and graduated from Swampscott High School, Class of 1957.
Jim was a laborer, foreman and field engineer for Boston Gas for 30 years. He also worked for Feeney Brothers Excavation in Dorchester as a dispatcher for 10 years, retiring in 2001. Jim had a passion for Boston sports, especially the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. As a younger man, he enjoyed going golfing with his uncles at Happy Valley Golf Course. He enjoyed candlepin bowling and won many awards over the years. He loved classic rock music, Bob Seger, The Eagles & Queen were on his play lists. More than anything, Jim’s children brought him great joy. He loved the holidays with his family around him. He had a wonderfully “dry” sense of humor, that always made people laugh. He will be remembered by his family as a man with a huge and gentle heart.
Jim is survived by his spouse of 28 years, Mary (Sanborn) Gannon of Lynn, his daughters; Dawn L. Gannon of Salem, MA and Jessica A. Gannon of Lynn, his son, James V. Gannon, Jr. of Lynn. His cousins; Elaine Gannon-Jacques of Middleton and Lawrence Gannon also survive him.
Visiting hours are on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, MA 01904. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street in Lynn. Burial will follow in Star of The Sea Cemetery in Marblehead.
