

Mr. James A. “Slip” Lannon, 80 of Lynn died Thursday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a gradual decline in health. He was the loving husband to Mary C. (Moriarty) Lannon with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Jim was born in Lynn, son of the late Daniel and Minnie (Nelson) Lannon. He was a lifelong resident of the City. A graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of 1951, he played baseball and was on the Hockey team that went to the State Championship.
He was the owner and president of Coral Food Service, a business he and his brother Dan started after the Korean War. As the Company grew, Jim’s three other brothers Bob, John and Bill joined the business. He ran the company with his brothers for over 25 years. After closing the Coral Food Service, Jim returned to the General Electric and worked in the Transportation Department for several years until retiring in 2001.
He was a United States Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded four medals and held the rank of SP 2.
Jim was an avid sports fan. He held season tickets to the New England Patriots for many years and was a staunch fan of the Boston Bruins and the Red Sox. He also enjoyed playing golf all around the North Shore. He was a member of the Local 201 IUE AFL-CIO and a communicant of St. Pius V Church. Jim was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his winters with his wife Mary at Ft. Myers Beach and Naples, Florida.
In addition to his loving wife Mary, Jim is survived by his five children James A. Lannon, Jr. of Lynn, Steven P. Lannon and his wife Susanne of Swampscott, Kevin D. Lannon and his wife Maria of Lynn, Julie M. Manley of Swampscott and Gary J. Lannon and his wife Kristin of Lynn. Devoted grandfather of Danielle, Stephanie, Sean, Joseph, Christina, Matthew, Paul, Michelle, Kimberly, Lindsey and Brendan. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John, Daniel, Robert and William Lannon, Mildred O’Neil, Geraldine Stanford, Patricia Hart and Betty Cook.
Jim’s Funeral will be from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Tuesday at 10 AM. His Funeral Mass will be in St. Pius V Church at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to My Brothers Table 98 Willow St. Lynn, MA 01901 or the Kaplan Family Hospice House 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102 Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
