James "Jim" Shirley

James Thomas Shirley, age 82, of Rowley, formerly of Lynn, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Linda M. (Croughwell) Shirley, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late James and Mary (Reynolds) Shirley, Jim was a graduate of Lynn Tech and later earned his associates degree from Northeastern. He was a master electrician and proud member of I.B.E.W. Local 103.

He was an intense supporter of the Labor Movement, an avid environmentalist and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, skiing, jogging and hiking. Jim enjoyed traveling with Linda and their kids to places such as Maine, Bahamas, Barbados, Africa, Alaska, and Ireland. He was a member of the Friends of Lynn Woods, spent countless hours caring for the Rose Garden. Jim lived on Sluice Pond for over 50 years and was a member of the Sluice Pond Association.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife Linda Shirley, his cherished children Eric Shirley and his wife Stephanie of Belmont, NH, Leanne Palmer and her husband Dave of Topsfield, Chrisanne Shirley and her significant other Mike Schmidt of Haverhill, Marianne Masterson and her husband Kevin of Woburn, and Tim Shirley and his fiancée Nicole Birmingham of Bradford, his precious grandchildren Hannah, Nate, Julia, Olivia, Nora, Nicky, Caroline and Ryan, and his sisters Margaret “Peggy” Corlew of California and Patricia Alley of Beverly.

In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by his sister Sarah “Sally” Laurie and his brothers-in-law Rod Corlew and Roger Alley.

Jim’s visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 8:30 to 11:30 AM in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. His funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
