

Mr. John E. McSweeney, age 89, of Lynn, died Thursday night in the Spaulding North Shore Hospital following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Isabelle (Whitmore) McSweeney, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, John was the son of the late Eugene and Katherine (Hines) McSweeney. A lifelong Lynn resident, he attended Lynn Schools, was a graduate of Lynn English High School and later attended Fisher College. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and proudly served his country during World War II, being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Prior to his retirement, John spent over 45 years as an Accountant for the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed golfing as well as being a caddie at the Gannon Golf Club.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Peter McSweeney and his wife Paula of Hopkinton, Barry McSweeney and his wife Sharon of Lynnfield and Ellen McSweeney Harper and her husband Trevor of Queanbean, Australia. He was the brother of Ann Breslow of Lynn and the loving Grandfather of Nicole, Derek, and Brianna McSweeney and Nathaniel, Ethan, Frances, and Patrick Harper. He was the father of the late Daniel McSweeney; brother of the late Lynn Deputy Police Chief Daniel McSweeney, Kay Shanahan, and Dr. Miriam Morse; step-brother of the late Helen Walsh, and Grandfather of the late Daniel McSweeney.
John’s Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-8PM. Gifts in his memory may be sent to My Brother’s Table, 98 Willow St. Lynn, MA 01901.
