Kathryn "Kay" McManus

Born in Lynn, Kay was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Lillian (Andrews) Gainey. She attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1946. She later attended the Salem State Teachers College and graduated in 1950.

Prior to her retirement, Kay was an English and Business Professor for many years at Marion Court College. She was a longtime communicant of St. Pius V and was a member of the Sodality. She was the Queen Mother of the Brooksby Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Kay also worked at Camp Lawrence and Camp Nokomis, where she was inducted into their Hall of Fame.

She leaves her children, Colleen M. McManus of Stamford, CT, Garrett J. McManus, Associate Justice of the Juvenile Court and his wife Diane of Topsfield, Dennis J. McManus and his wife Judith of Lynn, Terrence K. McManus of New York and Robert A. McManus, Jr. and his wife Maiko of Weston, FL. She was the mother-in-law to Debra McManus of Lynn. She was the loving grandmother to Liam, Maggie, Erin, Matthew, Laura, Yiyi, Susanna, John and Marni. She was the great grandmother to Donovan, Mac and Eliza. She was the sister to Lillian Thibodeau of Wenham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Kay was the mother to the late Former Lynn Mayor Patrick J. McManus and sister to the late Geraldine Donahue.

Kay’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours Wednesday 3-7PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Kay’s memory may be sent to the Lynne’s Kids, 210 Hamilton St. Saugus, MA 01906.
