Mary grew up in Beverly in the historic John Balch House, then married and relocated to Lynn to raise her family. She was dedicated to helping people, which is why it's no surprise that she worked for the Department of Transitional Assistance for many years, helping scores of families in the Greater Lynn area. Mary believed in the power of family above all else, and always opened her door to anyone in need of one. She cherished her time spent with family and friends, and never needed an excuse to host gatherings where everyone could be together. She was also a notable animal lover.
She was the loving mother of Karen Smith and her partner Darren Hayes, and Cindy Power and her husband Tim of Lynn. She was the cherished grandmother of William Foley of Malden, Courtney Smith of Woburn, and Kaylen McCarthy and her husband Patrick of Lynn, and the proud great-grandmother of Keira McCarthy of Lynn. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and shared an especially close relationship with her nephew Wayne Webster and his wife Claudia, of Westborough.
All are welcome to pay their respects and share stories of how Mary touched their lives on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27th at 10:00 AM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, followed by interment at Pine Grove Cemetery, 145 Boston Street, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to MSPCA/Northeast Animal Shelter at 347 Highland Avenue in Salem. https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/northeast-animal-shelter.
