

Paul Austin Smith, Sr. age 75 of Cape Coral, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice House on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. He was born on March 17, 1942 in Lynn, the son of the late Albert W. and Kathryn L. (Austin) Smith. He was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School. He received his Master’s Degree from Salem State College. While studying for his Master’s Degree, Paul began driving a cab to earn extra money. He soon learned how much he loved it. He taught accounting and tax classes at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica for grades 9 – 12 for 30 years. He was a true mentor for so many students. Paul also did accounting work and tax preparation for many private clients, some whom he had for 40 years. Paul enjoyed spending time with and raising his family. He enjoyed travelling and loved old cars and loud ROCK music. He had a strong work ethic and his favorite saying was “work before you play”. That being said, he lived life to the fullest. He was a CPA and a member of both the Billerica and Cape Coral Elks Clubs and a member of the NATP.
Paul is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara A. (Graves) Smith of Cape Coral, FL, his sons; Deputy Fire Chief (Massport Fire Dept.) Paul A. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Amanda of Winthrop and Scott Smith and his wife, Jessica of Dover, NH, his daughters; Holly McGibbon and her husband, Alexander III of Rochester, NH, Jill Sheing and her husband, Curt of Rochester, NH and Karen Rines and her husband, Mark of Farmington, NH. His grandchildren; Christopher Buote, Zackary Cardinal, Marky Rines and Haley Rines, all of Farmington, NH, Jamie and Adam Dionne, Kristine-Dumont Bhulli, Naresh Steve Bhulli, Alexandrya McGibbon and Paige Dionne, all of Rochester, NH, Mass State Trooper, Alexander M. Smith and Marissa Rivera, Aaron C. Smith and Tyler E. Smith, all of Winthrop, MA, Allison and Jeffrey Dean of Rollinsford, NH, Shannon Cardinal of Portsmouth, NH, Jayden Smith, Reagan Smith and Mollie Smith, all of Dover, NH as well as his great grandchildren; Kruz McKenna, Avery Dionne, Jordan Jeffrey and Natalie Smith also survive him. Paul also loved his dogs; Emilylou, Bingo, Jasmine Marie, Sofia, Jack, Sadie and Bentley.
There are no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 17 Grove Street, Lynnfield, MA 01940.
