

Phyllis Adele Beckles danced her way into heaven’s gates on Sunday, July 28, 2013, with her infectious smile, singing a hymn and thinking about all of the precious memories she amassed at the young age of 98. Phyllis was born in Barbados, WI on May 6, 1915 to the late George and Ellanora Lewis Williams.
A consummate mother to many, Phyllis was a superb gardener and an amazing cook. She enjoyed preparing meals and baking for her family and friends. Over the years, she was fondly identified as Mother Beckles and was well known for her candid and caring advice that she would impart to every and anyone she felt needed it.
Phyllis had an unwavering faith in God. She was heavily involved in church from the tender age of 18, at the Church of the Nazarene in Barbados, WI. Sister Beckles, was also an active member at Church of the Nazarene in Cambridge, MA, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, board member and diligent prayer warrior. Phyllis loved people and was a mother, sister and mentor to many.
Phyllis was predeceased by her loving husband, the late Hurbert “Sonny” Beckles and leaves her daughter Margot “Movita” Williams of Lynn, with whom she made her home until the time of her passing, a granddaughter Angela Mayartis Johnson, of Atlanta, GA, a niece she raised Margot Barnett, of New York, as well as two brothers, Wyatt Lewis of New York and Rudolph Lewis of Toronto, Ontario. Phyllis also leaves a host of cousins including Lessie Alleyne, Steven Brathwaite and several adoring nieces and nephews. She has is now reconnected with her late siblings Leyland, McCartney, and Iddon Lewis, and Eudennis Hoyte.
The family thanks everyone else who has shown loved for and prayed for Phyllis Adelle Beckles with their greatest gratitude.
Family and friends will be celebrating the life of Phyllis Adelle Beckles at the Church of the Nazarene, 233 Eastern Avenue, Lynn, MA, on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11AM, preceded by a viewing from 10AM – 11AM at the Church. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
