

Shirley N. (Simpson) Emerton, 89, of Saugus, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at home after a 10 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Emerton, with whom she had shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, daughter of the late William and Bertha (Simpson) Litch, she was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1938, and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a resident of Lynn for most of her life.
Shirley was employed as a Manager for Servomation Co. for many years. Following her retirement she worked for GLSS for 14 years.
Shirley loved meeting new people, traveling to places never visited, and especially enjoyed family gatherings. She was an avid reader and card player, especially poker.
She leaves two sons Robert E. Emerton, Jr. and his wife Dolores of VA, and David A. Emerton and his wife Charlene of Lynn, a daughter-in-law Leanne Emerton of Ipswich, her brother Philip Litch and his wife Lorraine of FL, two grandchildren Mark Emerton and Lisa Valentini, 2 step-grandchildren Timothy Voci and Alyssa McGarrell, three great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Sola Litch of Salem, a beloved cousin, Christine Demaso of Lynn, and several nieces and nephews.
She was mother of the late Jeffrey W. Emerton, sister of the late William Litch, Jr. and Barbara Day, sister-in-law of the late Hazel Sutcliffe, and aunt of the late Stewart “Stu” Sutcliffe.
Funeral Services in Grace United Methodist Church, 374 Broadway, Lynn on Tuesday at 10:00AM. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM in the CUFFE-McGINN FUNERAL HOME 157 Maple St., Lynn. Donations in Shirley’s memory may be sent to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
