She was the beloved wife of the late Harold J. Gately, Jr, for whom she waited so many years to be reunited with.
Born in Lynn, MA on April 17, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Thomas C and Cleophas (LeBlanc) Deveau. Theresa was a graduate of St. Mary’s Girls High School, Class of 1947, and then went on to attend Felt and Tarrant Comptometer School in Boston. She was employed at GE in Lynn for many years.
In her free time, Theresa loved knitting and gardening. She also loved to travel, going to Nova Scotia on numerous occasions, as well as making it to Ireland over twenty times in her life. Although she was of French Canadian descent, Theresa was named Irish Woman of the Year in 2005, by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 10 Lynn, for which she was a very proud member. Above all else though, Theresa loved her family. Nothing made her happier than having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren around, and making lasting memories with them.
Surviving Theresa are her children, Dennis Gately and his wife Jacalyn, Anthony Gately and his wife Susan, Thomas Gately and his wife Buffy, James Gately, Daniel Gately, and Mary Gately Hemeon; her grandchildren, Jonathan Gately and his wife Hilary, Joshua Gately, and Benjamin Hemeon; her great grandchildren, Julian Gately, and Vivian Gately, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Theresa was the dear sister of the late Rosemary Quinn, Leah McGuire, Alice Forand, Eleanor Peters, Blanche Donovan, and Rosalie Kurpiel.
Arrangements: Friends and family are invited to attend Theresa’s Funeral Mass which will be held on Monday, January 4th at 11 a.m. at St. Pius V Church, Lynn. Her burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Theresa's name may be made to the St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston, MA 02110.
