Obituary
Viola Marie Mathis, age 69, of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4th, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington MA, surrounded by her loving family.
She was the devoted wife of Fritz Charles Mathis, with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Born in Haiti, Viola was the beloved daughter of the late Raymond and Yvette (Germain)
DesRuisseaux. After moving to Boston where she attended local schools and graduated from Hyde Park High School, Class of 1974. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and later attended Youville Hospital School of Nursing. During this time, she relocated to Lynn, MA in 1976. A dedicated nurse, Viola worked for many years at the former Shaughnessy Rehabilitation Center (now Spalding Center Salem) until her retirement in 2015. Known for her compassion, patience, and grace, she touched countless lives through her work and friendships.
Viola loved cooking, sharing meals with her friends, and spending time with her family. Her greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, and grandmother—roles she carried with love, pride, and strength.

Viola leaves behind her loving husband, Fritz Charles Mathis, and two devoted daughters:
Taisha I. and her husband Stephon Rochelle of Worcester
Jennifer C. Mathis of Lynn
She is also survived by four brothers:
Pressoir DesRuisseaux and his wife Carmel of Miami, FL
Reynold DesRuisseaux of Hollywood, FL
Patrick DesRuisseaux of Lynn
Ralph DesRuisseaux and his wife Rosslyn of Lynn
Viola will be dearly missed by her four grandchildren—Asiah, Stephon Jr., Jaeden, and
Tyshon Rochelle, all of Worcester—as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Fritz Charles Mathis, Jr.
In-Laws
Viola is also lovingly remembered by her in-laws, including Max and Gertha Mathis of Georgia, Yves and Virginia Mathis of Lynn,
Jocelyne Dorce of Georgia, and Nicole Mathis of Lynn.
Their presence in Viola’s life brought joy and warmth to the family, and she cherished the relationships she shared with each of them.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Parker Funeral Home, 35 Franklin Street, Lynn
Burial: Following the service at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn
