Sept 2, 1943 – Dec 17, 2014
Brian was born to Henry and Mildred Beistel and grew up in Eugene, Oregon, sharing a happy childhood with his sister Suzanne. He received a degree in education from the University of Oregon and a Master in Theology from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA.
He was a Lutheran Pastor for 35 years at a number of churches in the Pacific Northwest, serving the last 20 years of his career at Luther Memorial Church in Seattle. He was truly a man of God, lived a life of faith, and was a follower of Christ.
Even as his health declined, and his mind became more and more clouded and confused, he continued his ministry, often preaching out loud to an invisible congregation, planning weddings, leading Bible studies, or choosing hymns. It was just who he was.
Brian was a kind and gentle man who impacted countless lives over the years. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and faithful friend. He loved history, travelling, and collectibles (including lighthouses and holiday mementos). He especially enjoyed time on the Oregon coast with friends and family.
We will miss him terribly, but rejoice that he is no longer struggling and is now experiencing a pure joy that we can only imagine. We thank God for his presence in our lives.
At his request, there will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 3rd at Luther Memorial Church, 13047 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133. Rather than sending flowers, please consider a donation to Luther Memorial or to a charity of your choice in Brian’s memory.
