I had no idea it has been over 10 years.  I had just over 2 years with Sr. Roybal as my Spanish teacher at Kent-Meridisn HS.  His instruction was very vital for my senior year I spent in Colombia.  Would not have made the transition without his classes.  Gracias Senor Roybal, vaya con Dios.

I took Spanish from Senor Roybal for three years at Kent-Meridian and sometimes helped him with the class.  He was a gentleman and always so courteous and patient with all of us.  My condolences to the family--I'm sure his passing has left a big hole in your lives.

Mary, Trish, Pam, Chuck and Mike,

I am very sorry for the loss of Uncle Chuck. I wish in the worst way that I could have been there. I miss your family very much and I have a lot of very fond memories of the times we spent together camping, fishing and celebrating the Holidays.
Some of my best memories are of the homemade tamales Chuck made, his guitar and that small amp, singing in Spanish and the fishing trips to Lake Washington and Neah Bay. 
Chuck was a source of wisdom and entertainment and he never minced words when chiding me for making a mistake (Jack Daniels and Blue Dot don’t mix), but he always let me know that I was part of his family and that his family was part of a much bigger family. 
Mike, being your age, I can't image your loss and pain, but I do know, you and I should be honored that we are preceded in Heaven by great men and women whose lives were dedicated to God and family.  Your eulogy was a great snapshot of your dad as I remember him. I agree that his life was full like his yard. He was very talented and he was very kind.
As sad as it is, our loss is God's gain and our lives and our successes are a measurement of the Godly lives that our mothers, our fathers and our grandparents exemplified as they walked the earth. 
The Roybal family legacy is what it is…A successful start from Patriarch to great, great, great grandchild and all the lives that are yet to come.
You and your family are in our prayers as we share the pain and celebrate your father’s final journey.

As a student of Senor Roybal's in the late 60's, I was saddened to hear of his passing.  I have always remembered his kindness, sense of humor and love of music. The foundation in Spanish he gave me helped me in my teaching career and I blessed him often!  I know you will miss him greatly, the world has lost another one of the "good guys".

Senor Roybal was one of my favorite teachers at Kent-Meridian.  I had him for Spanish for two years and I was his TA my senior year.  I was also on Rally Board so worked with him closely on all of the ribbons and signs.  I also had Pam at Meridian Junior High after I started teaching math. (I also babysat at least once for you.) I would run into him after I retired in 2002 when we would substitute at the same school.  He was one of those special teachers that a person doesn't forget. Thank you for such a wonderful tribute to your father,  You did such a perfect job in every way. I remember way back to my first memories of my brother when he worked so hard at the sugar beet factories nights to help support our very large family I must have been about 4 around that time. I remember him taking his little sisters to church services, I always remember him playing that guitar.  He was always very respectful to mom and dad.  He was always a caretaker and generously shared the bounty of his garden, fish catch or venison, homemade tortillas, empanadas, enchildas and tamales. He showed his love to us in so may ways. Even in the last year of his life, he would call me or Leonard to check up on us if he did not hear from us for a while. He meant so much to so many and we will miss him greatly.

Senoir Roybal was the only teacher I ever had who gave me a "D" on a test.  When I asked him why he did so,  he told me would have given me an "F" but he liked me.

He was a great teacher, we all loved him, and by the way-I finished the semester with an "A"

I graduated from K-M in 1968, and will always remember Senor Roybal as one of my favorite people. Many great memories playing his guitar, and actually learning a little Spanish. What a wonderful, posative person he was. Vaya con Dios, mentoro mio. You made your little corner of the world a better place, and you will be missed by many, tambien yo. May God hold you in his arms.

To Senor Roybal's family - many, many of us former students have very fond memories of Spanish class, playing guitar and trying to learn Spanish. I still have the pep club "ribbons" we created with our much loved Mr. Roybal. Our thoughts are with your family. Denny Organ (KM class of '68)

I was stunned to hear about Chuck today here at Warm Beach. He always had the sweetest smile, and the twinkliest eyes. He will be missed greatly in his own neighborhood. I was fortunate to hear him play the guitar for our volunteers at the thrif store, where he and Mary would often come in and brighten our day. God bless you and your large, close family, Mary.

When my father (Mary's brother Earl) died in an auto accident in 1981 (I was 18 yr old). I felt such a void in my life. Uncle Chuck took me under his wing and made sure that I knew that there would always be a father figure that I could turn to for support. Even though distance and busyness of life's journey put space between us, I always felt his presence and unconditional love surrounding me. His passion for life and his respect for family will always lift me up……and will continue to do so.  Be at peace, Uncle Chuck.  
And to Aunt Mary and family I send my deepest condolences for your loss. His presence will be missed…..only until one cracks a joke……and then you will hear him laugh and know that he never really left your side. Words for my Uncle Chuck ... thank you for my numerous memories of family get togethers during holidays, summer breaks skiing and fishing, sharing your interest in cars, your kindness to my mother, and the love and respect I always received from you.  I'll keep these memories forever.

Thank you very much to the family for posting those great photographs.  I been thinking of Uncle Chuck a lot the last couple of days.  I consider myself very fortunate to have come from such a loving family.  I have many fond memories as a child of spending holidays at Uncle Chuck and Aunt Mary's home.  Aunt Mary of course was always very quiet but not uncle Chuck, he always had a smile on his face, loved the kids and seemed to love having the whole family together.  The best tamales ever!!  Spanish guitar and plenty of time to play with my wonderful cousins.  I will treasure these memories forever.  Wish I were there to tell you in person.  Love Always  Georgee'

I was saddened to read in the paper last night of "Senor Roybal's" passing. I was in his Spanish classes in my Jr. & Sr. years at Kent-Meridian. He was the 1st person to give me confidence in myself as a student and as a person. He was a wonderful teacher & friend to so many of his students.

Mary, I enjoyed getting the chance to know you and the kids on those occassions when I babysat or helped with housecleaning when you were preparing for special occassions. For the longest time I had a cute little card that Patti or Pam made for me one time when I was babysitting them -- can't find it now....guess age finally caught up with it.

I so wish I could be there tomorrow for the funeral services, but my Fridays are dedicated to caring for my mother. I will be there in spirit.  I know God is comforting your hearts as you grieve his absence from your lives on this earth, but take joy in knowing that we'll all see him again one day. He was (and is) a very special person. Heartfelt love and prayers go out to all of you.

 We have lost a 2nd sibling within two months.  Our family was intact far longer than the average..Especially when you consider there were ten of us..
 Dad and Mom always wanted us to be next to them.  The hope is we will all be together another day.
 Chuck was a very significant part of my growing up. He was a tender loving brother to me and I do recall he would look for cardboard boxes at the shipping docks along the railroad in Billings because he could sell them and bring whatever amount he could to mom and dad so they could feed us all. I was a tiny child then but the responsibility he took at such a young age to help will always be a loving memory I have. He is with my parents and my sister Irene and my son John Wayne and they are having a great time at this writing..My love goes to all of you.  I know his memory will give you strength to keep his love alive in all your future generations..Aunt Della

   Besides his relations with Pat, he was a remarkable teacher of Spanish in the Kent school district.   He always took pride in the fact that many of the students he had at Kent Meridian later became Spanish teachers in the public school system.  We watched him repair and refurbish many vehicles using his mechanical skills.  He was most open and friendly and what we would call the "salt of the earth".

Charles Ambrose Roybal was born in Bolder, Colorado December 21, 1928.  He began his journey to a new life on May 21, 2010.

He is survived by his wife Mary. Children: Patricia & Bill Spear, Pamela and Duane Goeman, Charles R. Roybal, and Michael Roybal.  Grandchildren: Anthony Roybal, Benjamin Roybal, and Isabella Roybal. Brother Theodore Roybal and Sisters Genevieve Davis, Fedelina de Aguero, Eva Van Ry, Della Yue, Vera Butler , Ruth Miller, Linda Belzer.  His extended family included numerous nieces, nephews and others who loved him dearly. 

Charles had a passion for teaching.  He retired as a beloved teacher from Kent Meridian High School and also taught at Green River Community College.

His love for music, art, and ministries with Spanish speaking people will be long remembered
