Aug. 12, 2015, in Kenmore, WA, following a battle with Leukemia.
Darrell’s childhood revolved heavily around helping with the family farm, and following high school
graduation he spent one year working on the railroad. He spent four years in the Navy, serving as a storekeeper on the USS Kermit Roosevelt and the USS Burton Island in the seas around Japan.
While in the service, Darrell’s ship docked in Seattle WA, where he met Georgia (Jo Lou) Miller at a church function, and the two were wed June 11, 1955. Darrell’s time in the Navy came to an end in
1956, and the two made the Seattle area their permanent home.
Darrell became a bookbinder after leaving the Navy, and he continued in that industry until he retired from Heath Printers 42 years later in 1998. At that point, he devoted much of his free time to various building projects – including woodworking and cabinet-making – and also worked diligently maintaining his yard right up until he became very ill. He was always making something for somebody.
Darrell attended church faithfully and served as a deacon, board member, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer for 19 years. He also worked with the church bus ministry for 15 years.
Darrell leaves behind a loving and very close family as he is survived by his wife Georgia, children Jerry
(Cindy), Steve (Laurie), and Connie (Tom), his grandchildren Stefanie (Brandon), Jeremy (Marissa), Tyler, Jordan (Rachel), Jessica (Andy), and Lindsey, and his great-grandchildren Malachi, Elliott, and Emelia. He also leaves one sister, Regina, one brother-in-law, Donnie, and many nieces and nephews.
