Donald E. Sanders, a resident of Edmonds, Washington, passed away September 22, 2010. Don was born in Yakima, Washington on January 23, 1924. He grew up in Yakima, was an Eagle Scout, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 1943, while a freshman at the University of Washington, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was proud to have served his country as a Sergeant in the 88th Signal Company during WWII. Don worked for many years in hotel management and was a sales representative for Gerber Cutlery for the last twenty years of his employment. He resided in Edmonds for the past fifty years and appreciated the companionship of many close friends.
Don is survived by his son, Douglas Sanders; daughter, Debera Hunsinger (Michael); his grandchildren, Don Sanders (Heide), Jeb Hunsinger and Susan Hunsinger; great grandchildren, Sierra DiCarlo and Liam Sanders; and his sister, Barbara Rankin (Robert).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Ohman Sanders and his grandson, David Sanders.
Don will receive military honors at a graveside service at 11:00am, Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Floral Hills Cemetery in Lynnwood, Washington. The family will greet guests in the Purdy & Walters Funeral Home on the grounds of the cemetery 15 minutes prior to the service. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Hospice of Seattle.
