Liz was born in Sequim, Washington on October 20, 1932, and went home to be with her Lord at the age of 93 on March 26, 2026. She will be remembered for her love, devotion, and caring; strength, work ethic, and independence; and for her jokes, pranks, and wonderful sense of humor.
Liz is survived by daughters Vicki Betz of Snohomish and Cheryl Boze of Everett, son Scott Boze (Cathy) of Lake Stevens, brother James Carns (Britta) of Bellevue, sister Teresa Carns of St. Ignatius, Montana, and grandchildren Sarah Christopherson (Shawn), David Betz, Stephen Betz (Grace), Jordan Boze, Kyle Boze, and Derek Boze (Janneth), four great grandchildren (plus one on the way), and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was proceeded in death by parents James and Fannie Belle Carns, and Sisters Frances Carns Hancasky VanHorn (Rich and Jim) and Elinor Carns Dodd (Gene).
Liz was raised on a dairy farm in the Snoqualmie Valley near Duvall where she was her dad’s helper, milking cows, haying, caring for animals including her pet cow Marigold and horse Lizzie, and driving a truck before she could see over the steering wheel. She worked equally hard on chores with her mother, learning to cook, bake, sew, and keep an immaculate house. Liz graduated from Tolt High School in Carnation in 1950, where she served as yearbook editor, class treasurer and senior prom queen. She was on the newspaper staff and Girls Club Cabinet and was active in Glee Club, Girls Club and many other school activities. Liz fondly remembered participating in 4H and earning many Puyallup Fair blue ribbons, especially for baking. She attended college at Central in Ellensburg and took business classes at Lake Washington Vocational-Technical School.
Liz was employed at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company before marrying her eighth-grade sweetheart, Fred Boze in 1954. They purchased their Kenmore home in 1957 where she lived until moving to a memory care facility in Bothell in 2025. Liz stayed home to raise her three children before returning to work in the insurance industry in 1978. She landed a job with Dick Lyons at Continental Northwest Insurance Company and later joined the team at Meisenbach Capital Management in 1983, retiring after 30 years at the age of 81. At MCM she was a highly valued employee, rising to the position of Vice President of Underwriting and inspiring colleagues through her dedication, integrity, skill, and humor.
Family was the center of Liz’s life. She was a loving, dedicated, protective mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She did an incredible job of managing the small family budget and ensured her children had opportunities not available to her when she grew up including skiing, swimming and music lessons. She served as Kenmore Elementary PTA President, Little League scorekeeper and “candy lady,” earned a Golden Acorn Award, cheered for her kids at swim meets and ball games, ferried kids to Camp Fire, Scouts, Sunday School and AWANA meetings, and did the work of Cubmaster, though dad held the title. She loved giving elaborately wrapped gifts and handwritten cards for every occasion, dressing in silly costumes for Halloween and Christmas morning, and treating family to special outings.
A woman of faith, Liz rededicated her life to the Lord at a Billy Graham Crusade in 1951. She was a long-time member of Bethany Baptist Church, and later Kenmore Community Church. Liz taught Sunday School, held babies in the nursery, and served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader
Liz was a music lover with eclectic taste. She was an active member of the Engelbert Humperdink fan club and enjoyed traveling to concerts and acquiring every LP, cassette, and CD he ever recorded. She held season tickets to Mariner games, the Fifth Avenue Theater, and the Seattle Symphony. She loved movie and Denny’s nights with best friend Margaret as well as traveling for work and pleasure with highlights including the Olympics in Nagano, Japan; Alaskan and Mediterranean cruises; visits to most states; and family trips to Hawaii, Mexico, and her sister’s ranch in Montana.
Liz will be buried at a private family event at the Novelty Hills Cemetery in Duvall on April 4 followed by a memorial service on Saturday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Imprint Church (formerly Kenmore Community Church), 7504 NE Bothell Way – Kenmore, WA 98028. Donations in Liz’s memory can be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
