Floyd George “Red” Snoozy, age 91, of Bothell, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2026. George was slowly taken from us, over many years, by Alzheimer’s disease, and in his last couple days he was surrounded by family and friends coming to see him one last time. We know he was fully present with us, evident by the animation in his face, so we are sure that he took with him the many loving memories, thoughts, and goodbyes imparted to him by those present.
George was born to Harry and Ida Snoozy of Centerville, South Dakota on February 22, 1935. The third of four children, he grew up, working hard on both his family farm as well as the farms of extended family members and attended school in the Morningstar Schoolhouse not far from his home through 8th grade. He then attended and graduated from Centerville High School in 1953.
As a kid, he first showed his mechanical aptitude when he took his mother’s clock apart and was told he also had to put it back together…which he did! This inclination lead him, in 1954, to attend Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, South Dakota, where he trained in auto mechanics, which landed him a job with the local Chrysler dealership as a mechanic.
A few years later, when the job market struggled, George moved west to Edmonds, Washington where his older sister, Harriett Smith and brother-in-law, Ralph lived. He quickly found two jobs: one with Boeing, where he worked on the Boeing-737, and another working on forklifts in Seattle. He joined the Washington National Guard in 1957 and served in the reserves until 1960 in the motor pool at the NIKE site located in Bothell. He later became co-owner and shop supervisor of Puget Sound Industry Services, “PSI”—a forklift parts, lift truck service, and industrial equipment repair shop in the Georgetown industrial corridor of Seattle. George was known and respected for his honesty, integrity and skill throughout the Puget Sound area for more than 50 years. He retired when PSI closed its doors in 2011, then enjoyed many years of quiet home-time puttering in the yard, watching old westerns, and travelling with his wife Libby and his sister-in-law, Nancy, and, on occasion, the extended family, to places like Las Vegas, California, Sedona and Phoenix, the Grand Canyon, Sun Valley, Newport, and Montana.
George met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Libby” Vest, on a blind date in the early 60’s and they were married on May 17,1963 and purchased a small home in Bothell that same year, which they later enlarged by adding a great room and garage to. With Libby by his side, he spent 63 happy years in that home, threw many celebrations, Christmas and New Year’s parties, raised 2 of their 3 children there and saw his final day there surrounded by Libby, his daughter Deborah, his son Michael and his daughter-in-law Terasa.
George was preceded in death by both his parents, his son, Kieth Randy, who died as an infant in 1964, and his older brother and sister, Wilfred “Oly” Snoozy and Harriet Smith.
He is survived by wife Libby, children Michael Snoozy(Terasa) and Deborah Dunsire(Brent); grandchildren: Caleb, Kieran, and Keegan Snoozy, and Oceana(Gwen Granum) and Maryn Dunsire; his younger brother, Leroy Snoozy and his long-time friend, co-worker and sister-in-law, Nancy Craig, who is the same age but also “always younger” than him.
