Lee, Hyon Suk was born in Seoul, South Korea to Lee, Kyu Rok and Jeong, Dong Uk. She was orphaned and badly injured at an early age during the Korean War. Her town was hit by friendly fire from US aircraft. She was raised by her grandmother from her mother’s side and by an aunt and uncle from her father’s side. Life from her father’s side was in a Presbyterian parsonage. She was a lifelong believer in Christ Jesus. She loved to refer to herself as “Jesus’ little lamb.”
She met James Jenson while he was serving in Korea in the US Army throughout 1969 and 1970. After he retuned to the United States, they continued to correspond. Through that correspondence it became apparent this was more than a friendship. They were married at the Lutheran congregation at Prairie City, South Dakota February 20, 1971.
Lee, her sir name became her nickname, raised three children. At the same time she earned the PHT degree (Putting Husband Through) from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. PHT is a fun yet deeply meaningful token degree honoring the faithful service of all the seminarian’s wives. She worked several decades as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved working with the elderly and would bring devotions to them and sing familiar Christian hymns for them.
She is survived by husband James, children Barton, Malissa, and Kurt; grandchildren Jordan Jenson, Makaela Jenson, Braylin Jenson, Eva Quails and Piper Jenson, brother Lee, Jong Hwan and many aunts and uncles in Korea and the U.S.A.
Her memory as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend remains throughout the lifetime of all who knew her.
