Laurel Jean Clifner, born July 23, 1926, was born to Clara and Leonard Stevenson. Laurel was raised by her mom and dad until her dad was sent away to a TB sanitarium. At the age of 13, during the Great Depression and for her safety, Laurel moved into her "aunt" Rena and "uncle" Walter's house. At the age of 21, while working as a secretary at Beechcraft, Laurel left home to find her independence. Laurel married Laurence Denby Clifner in 1954 and had three beautiful daughters: Linda (1955), Sharon (1956) and Carolyn (1957). Laurel stood by her husband during times of struggle, was a cheerleader for her daughters, was pro-civil rights, and loved unconditionally. Despite many difficulties, she was described as a survivor with a forgiving and generous heart. At the end of her life, Laurel was cared for by her daughters from 2008 to 2019, who loved her dearly. The last four years she was cared for by Moji and other caregivers from First Blessed Adult Family home. Moji provided a caring, loving, and warm environment for Laurel. She is survived by 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren with one on the way. The Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all who came today and have supported us during this time of loss.
A memorial service for Laurel will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036, followed by a committal service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
