Norma Jean Larson passed away peacefully on October 25, 2014 after a fifteen month battle with cancer. Norma was born in 1934 to William and Agnes Hafferman in Kalispell, Montana. Norma grew up in Libby and graduated as Valedictorian of the LHS class of 1952. Norma attended the University of Montana where she met her husband, Steven Roy Sanders.
They married in Libby and in August 1955 and traveled the world together as Steven was a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. They had three children: Julie, Douglas, and Don. Steven was killed in action in 1969 in the Vietnam War. Norma went immediately to work for the Libby Public School System.
Following her love for flying, they moved to Mesa, Arizona so that she could manage the flight school there. Soon after, she moved to her hometown of Libby to take over ownership of the Meadowlark Motel and Trailer Court from her parents. Norma eventually ended up in Idaho, where she received her Master's Degree in Education. She met and married Larry Larson in 2006.
Even though she suffered from early stages of Alzheimers in her last few years of life, she never lost her delightful sense of humor.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Steven, grandson Steven, her parents William and Agnes, brother Billy Hafferman, her granddaughter Ashley, and husband Larry.
Norma is survived by her children and their spouses, Julie and Paige (Twin Falls, ID), Douglas and Diana (Fort Worth, TX), Don and Marie (Bothell, WA), nine grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to her very best friend Margie Payne and the Evergreen Hospice Center for all the help during this hard time. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association.
