PEGGY MAE NICHOLSON
May 16, 1940 - October 11, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of our matriarch, Peggy Mae (Delamere) Nicholson, age 84, from complications of dementia on October 11, 2024, in a memory care facility in Mount Vernon, Washington. Peggy “Peg” was a devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt, and grandmother whose favorite role in life was that of caregiver, offering her support, wit, and unyielding love in abundance.
Born in Peoria, Illinois, on May 16, 1940, Peggy, along with her younger sister, Betty, soon relocated from Illinois to Winslow, Arizona, with their high-spirited mother, Christine, when they were very young girls, before heading north and making their home in Everett, Washington. There, Peggy attended Everett schools. When she was 18, she met the boy she would marry at a party on Blackmans Lake in Snohomish County named Charlie E. Nicholson, Jr., and on March 20, 1962, the couple was married at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Lombard Street in downtown Everett. Quickly they began a family and Peggy devoted her life to raising her two sons, Michael and David, and daughter, Barbara, as well as caring for a swinging door of neighboring children in her home. For fun and recreation, Peg was a longtime member of a bowling league called Hits & Misses from the 1960s to the mid 90s. She also greatly enjoyed shopping, particularly with her sister, Betty, often zeroing in on the same items, but in different colors, then later enjoying their lofty purchases over a glass (or two!) of red wine. Many who knew and loved Peggy described her as a one-of-a-kind woman with the tenacity of a bulldog, who went to great and often comical lengths to protect those in her nest.
Peggy is survived by husband Charlie E. Nicholson, Jr.; children Michael R. Nicholson (Tammie) of Longview, WA; Barbara J. Nicholson, of Mount Vernon, WA; and David L. Nicholson (Nancy) from Mount Vernon, WA; grandsons Jorge Hernandez (Jethica); great-grand-daughter, Maya, from El Paso, TX, and Jacob Hernandez (Nydia) of San Antonio, TX; sisters Betty J. Patterson (Pat, deceased), of Everett, WA, and Donna Baddley (Bill) from West Jordan, UT; nieces Debbie Clark from Everett, WA, and Joni Meyer (Jeff) from Las Vegas, NV; and grand-nephew Aiden Meyer and grand-niece Ariel Clark.
Peggy was preceded in death by mother Christine M. Anderson (Leonard, deceased); sister Judy Neumann (Bob, deceased); brother Ron Anderson (Dee); nephew Darren Baddley (Amber) of Salina, UT; and brothers-in-law Walter “Sam” Nicholson from Tacoma, WA; Robert E. Nicholson (Beryl), a career Air Force man from Sun City, AZ; and Gary C. Nicholson of Lake Stevens, WA.
The family invites all who knew Peggy to join them at a graveside service on October 23, 2024 at 12PM at Floral Hills Cemetery, located at 409 Filbert Rd. Lynnwood, WA (425.672.1800). The public is welcome.
Donations, if made, can be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation, or to any memory care organization of their choosing.
A Celebration of Peggy's remarkable life will be held at a Date and Location still pending.
