

in her daughter’s home under the care of hospice. She was born in September 1928 in Korea where her
father was doing research, but grew up in Kyoto, Japan. During the war, she was sent to Himeji near
Kyoto to escape the bombs that were expected for Kyoto. However, Kyoto was spared from bombs and
Himeji was targeted instead. She had always remembered the sound of falling bombs. Reiko worked as a
custom dressmaker in Honolulu. She attended Beauty school when she was in her 30’s and was very
successful and talented. Vidal Sassoon wanted to hire her! She worked at Tomoe Beauty Salon in
Seattle, and later owned her own shop in North City called Reiko Beauty Salon. She loved plants
especially orchids, arranging flowers, gardening, painting, crocheting, sewing and collecting frog
figurines.
She was married to her husband Kazuichi Matsumoto for more than 70 years.
Kazuichi Andrew (Andy) Matsumoto, 93, of Lynnwood, Washington died peacefully on March 24, 2020 in Vinyard Park Memory Care Center in Mountlake Terrace, under the care of hospice. Kazuichi was born in December, 1926 in Maui, Hawaii. He was drafted into the United States Army after high school and
retired from the army after 20 years of service. When he was stationed in Kyoto, Japan, he met and fell
in love with Reiko. They married in September 1949. With the army they moved to Hawaii, back to
Japan and finally to the Seattle area. They loved the Seattle area and had homes in Kenmore and
Lynnwood. Following his army career, he worked at Honeywell until retirement. Andy was a great
carpenter and made many pieces of furniture. Andy could also fix anything electrical; he went to garage
sales to buy TV’s and radios that didn’t work, just to fix them.
Together they loved traveling and going to casinos. They also enjoyed being grandparents.
Reiko and Kazuichi Matsumoto were predeceased by their parents, siblings and grandson, Michael. They
are survived by their daughter Kyoko Matsumoto Wright and grandson Yoshi Wright. They are also
survived by their son Roger Matsumoto (Mary Clare), grandchildren Steven (Jennifer) and Brett, and
great grandchildren Emma, Ben and Vivian.
Interment was private for both Reiko and Kazuichi. A memorial service for both will be held in July 2022.
