

San Vay, 91 years old, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2021. His loving family gracefully surrounded him at his bedside during hospitalization at the Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. San Vay was born to Vouch Vay and Hean Tun, in Takeo Province, Cambodia on April 27, 1930.
From an early age, San was highly involved with his religion. From the age of 6, he studied Buddhist sermons and teachings at the temple from monks. San became a Buddhist monk at the age of 13 years old and continued to practice until 1954. San attended and graduated from his Buddhist Monk School in 1950.
San Vay was an admired teacher from 1954 to 1990. After he retired, his former students asked him to tutor their children. He continued to teach and tutor until 1998.
San has known Sorn since she was a toddler. After being granted permission by Sorn's family, he married Sorn in 1955. He was 25 years old at the time, Sorn was 16. They have been married for 66 years. They lived in Takeo Province after they got married and then moved to Phnom Penh city in 1965. San and Sorn raised seven daughters together.
San loved spending time with his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In his free time, San liked playing Cambodian music, instruments, reading Buddhist teachings and sermons, listening to the news, gardening, and going to the temple.
San was preceded in death by both his parents, his only son, his sister Rain Svay, his 3 brothers – Sok Svay, Pum Svay, and Chhoeun Svay. He is survived by his wife – Sorn Nhem, 7 daughters – Saroeun Yut, Sopheap Vay, Sotheavy Vay, Sokun Vay, Borany Vay, Naran Vay, and Keo Vay, 13 grandchildren – Sinat C. Hun, Sokanha K. Nelson, Oudum Chheat, Chamroung Chheat, Phatdav Phun, Putsamphors Phun, SokBorith Heal, SokSarika Heal, SokSarita Heal, Robin K. Tan, Cynthia K. Tan, Angelica K. Tan, Selena K. Tan, 6 great-grandchildren – OudomRattanak Chheat, OudomYanut Chheat, OudomChanboth Chheat, Collen Simple, Lucien D. Nelson, Leanora R. Nelson, 2 sisters – Ronn Svay and Nim Svay, and brother – Penn Svay.
