Steven Lyle Cole, age 71, of Mill Creek, WA, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024. He was born on September 29, 1952 in Spokane, WA to William and Lois Cole. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life was filled with love and adventure.
Steve is survived by Jeri (Schjei) Cole, his loving wife of 44 years; his daughter and son-in law Alysse and Matt Moury and their two children, Landon and Keegan. He also leaves behind his nephew Travis Hawk and nieces Ellyn Cole and Calli Price Houde. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Cole, and his sisters Susan Hawk and Cindy Cole.
Steve graduated from Newport High School in 1970 and went on to earn two bachelor’s degrees in construction management and architecture from the University of Washington in 1978. He married the love of his life, Jeri, in July 1980, and they welcomed their daughter Alysse in September 1985.
Steve built a successful career in construction management, initially with Turner Construction in Chicago and upon returning to Seattle, worked for Howard S Wright Construction Company where he and Jeri met. He then spent 10 years in private residential construction before moving to Lake Washington School District where he worked for 19 years. Steve later joined Seattle Public Schools where he continued his career for another decade until his retirement in 2018.
As a lifelong boating enthusiast, Steve's love for the water began with fishing trips alongside his father and grew into a passion for recreational boating on Lake Union with his family and friends. Steve enjoyed traveling and exploring the US along with many European trips. Over the years, Puerto Vallarta became one of his favorite destinations with over 20 visits. In 2020, Steve and Jeri purchased a second home in La Quinta, CA where they spent their winters soaking up the sun.
As a devoted sports fan, Steve took great pleasure in watching his family participate in sporting activities. From traveling with Alysse and her volleyball teams, to watching Landon and Keegan play little league, he was always there to support and relish in their achievements. Steve was also an avid University of Washington football fan and his annual Apple Cup party lives on and continues to spread Husky Pride and bring joy to so many. Go Dawgs!
Steve had a keen interest in technology and would have undoubtedly found humor in the fact that this obituary was written with the help of A.I. Steve will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, humor, and passion for life will live on through the memories of those he touched.
A private family service will be held at Floral Hills Cemetery and a Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held in October with details forthcoming.
