Thaddas Lee Alston, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Thad was born on April 7, 1945 to Richard and Frances Alston in Cairo, Illinois. Growing up in Chicago, Thad attended and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School, followed by Harvard College and Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. In 1978, Thad met and fell in love with Karen Glover, and they married the next year. Thad and Kari raised two children together, Samantha and Evan. Thad began his law career in community housing, later transitioning to business law and then founding with partners his own firm now known as Alston, Courtnage & Bassetti LLP. In 1995, Thad began a fulfilling role in international business, to which he devoted himself whole-heartedly until his passing. In addition to his work, life’s simplest pleasures brought great joy to Thad. He cherished his charitable giving, relationship to God and Epiphany Episcopal Parish, long walks with family and friends, international travel and pilgrimage, and time with his beloved dog, Dreamer. Thad was preceded in death by both of his parents and two brothers, Sherman and Chaucer. Thad is survived by his wife, Kari; two daughters, Evan and Samantha; two siblings, Richard and Patricia; and nephew, Santi. A memorial service on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, will be limited to immediate family out of respect for COVID-19-related health concerns. May Thad rest in perfect peace.
