Dr. Yasuyuki Hosoda, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and a loving father, passed away on April 23, 2024. Born in Uenohara, Japan on February 26, 1936, Dr. Hosoda dedicated his life to the medical field, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and compassion.
Dr. Hosoda was a graduate of Tokyo University’s medical school and completed his surgical training at the Cleveland Clinic. He was one of the founding members of Borgess Hospital’s open heart surgery team in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He later served as the chair of surgery at Juntendo University, in Tokyo, Japan, where he played a pivotal role in the development of the cardiothoracic surgery department. His expertise and leadership were instrumental in shaping the future of cardiac care in Japan.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Hosoda was a devoted family man. He was the proud father of Etsuko, Sadato, Setsuko, and Naoto, and he cherished his role as a grandfather to eight grandchildren. His love and guidance will continue to inspire his family for generations to come.
Dr. Hosoda’s contributions extended beyond the operating room. As a young man he served on the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Japan, committed to the creation of a global community founded on the principle of the oneness of mankind. He was an avid golfer and world citizen.
Throughout his life, Dr. Hosoda was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and dedication to healing. He leaves behind a loving wife, Yukiko, and a multitude of colleagues, friends, and patients whose lives he touched with his skill and compassion. Dr. Yasuyuki Hosoda will be deeply missed but forever remembered as a beloved surgeon, mentor, and family man.
A graveside service for Yasuyuki will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 980364934.
