

Alvin Boyd Allen, Sr., 83, of Macon, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014, in a local healthcare facility after an extended illness. Mr. Allen was a lifelong resident of Macon, graduating from Lanier High School in 1949, and worked at Armstrong World Industries for 41 years before retiring in 1990. He married Sara Ricks Allen in June of 1951, who preceded him in death in 2010, after 59 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Sidney Allen and Eldora Allen. Mr. Allen was also preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Stockstill and brother, David “Smokey” Allen.
Mr. Allen was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and was a member of the Keenagers group, Pathfinders Sunday School class, served as an usher, and was an ordained deacon. Mr. Allen was also an Eagle Scout and a Veteran in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed music, collecting all sorts of memorabilia, and traveling, but more than anything he loved spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Boyd Allen (Karen) of Macon, Ricky Allen (Susan) of Statesboro, Mark Allen (Susan) of Sandersville, and Andy Allen (Diana) of Rome; brother, Arthur Allen of Macon; sister, Betty Hart of Eatonton; grandchildren, Kristy Mobley, Adam Allen, April Prosser, and Ashley Summers; great grandchildren, Brandon Prosser and Mason Summers; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 3:00 pm, at the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Allen and Dr. Neal Wall officiating. The family will greet friends on Saturday, October 4, 2014, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
