I remember BJ for all the fun memories and for treating me like family! All the times we spent with her have always meant so much to me. She was like a second mother to me who understood me and I still hear her words of wisdom. I am so sorry for your loss Candy and Mike, she was an angel on earth! 

BJ made my father happy for many years. My daughter remarked that since she and my father were married so many years, “she’s the only grandmother I knew”. 

I have so many fond memories of laughter and good food (oh what a cook she was!). 

Yet, somehow, in a plot twist even Faulkner couldn’t have written, the stepdaughters and “other” grandchildren weren’t mentioned. It is what it is.

Not sure why I’ve waited so long to finally submit this. I also have the greatest childhood memories with Aunt Bettie, Michael and Candy. From swimming in the pool at their house to piling in Aunt Bettie’s car and heading to the beach with an overnight stop at Granny Lou’s. It’s for sure one of my favorite pictures came from a beach trip. 
As I grew older I began to understand why she meant so much to so many of us. She was real. She was authentic. She lived her life with love and appreciation for all of those she cared about. She didn’t judge- we were Sue’s children or Bettie’s children. Either way, it truly was one and the same.  No judgment, but  lots of love, acceptance, and beautiful spirit. 
I love you, Aunt Bettie, Michael, and Candy. 

Sweet Aunt Bettie always so kind and would light up the room. She will always have a special place in my family memories.   

I have the honor of writing something for my Mom (Sue Shiver Brown, Aunt Betties oldest sibling and memories for me. I will do my best to keep this brief. 
2 weeks before my Aunt Bettie passed she and mom had a great chat. They said what needed to be said. Mother recounted how she could remember our Grandmother brining Aunt Bettie home for the hospital and giving her to mom, saying to my mother that she "had to take care of the baby".  Aunt Bettie always knew how much her oldest sister loved her. They had a bond that could not be broken. Love goes on. 
For my part I had a chance to talk with her too. I told her how much I appreciated all the times she would protect me and my mother from my father. I would stay over at their house till he calmed down. In the most simplest way I can say it, Aunt Bettie was my Auntie Mame, (Rosalind Russel version). Summers we would pile in the car and go from middle GA to Virginia to see family. Mike, Candy and I would be in the back. Candy always got us into trouble. I treasure those memories of fun, art and beauty I shared with her. 
To my cousins I send so much love. To my Aunt Bettie, she knows what a force for good she was in my life. 

Bettie, my adorable and sweet sister, my true friend and always loyal confidant - I will miss you for as long as I’m on this earth.   Life’s path did not afford us the amount of time we would have loved in being together all through the years.  But one thing for certain, our bond was steadfast and sure.  Having my wedding in your home 58 years ago was so very special to me and Cliff! Years later, in 1975 when 8 months pregnant (leaving part of my family behind) I returned from New Zealand because of mother’s illness.  Little Andrew and I will never forget those precious memories living with you and your family and the love and thoughtfulness you all showed to us.  And I am SO very grateful for the times I was ‘given’ the blessing to be with you during your surgeries, or at Candy’s birth, or through times of illness etc.  God only knows how much it’s meant to me to have you for my beloved sister.  For sure, I will always be so thankful for Michael and Candy, your amazing children whom I love dearly, who have shown such great love and sacrifice in caring for their precious mother through the years.  I look forward to seeing you in heaven, continuing to enjoy God’s infinite love and amazing grace.
 

Where to begin? I loved being with her every time we would go visit family in Macon. I couldn’t wait to get to her house. She was like a movie star in my eyes. I remember her perfume and she always smelled so good and it was the same kind every time I hugged her. Sometimes I would lay in her big king bed with her (when her cat would let me close to her haha) and we would just talk and talk. She was so caring and loving to me ALL the time even though I probably got on her nerves sometimes! Fly High Aunt BB and I’ll see ya again one day.
