Born in Lyon County, Kentucky, Betty Jean was the daughter of the late Rummage and Ella Belle Abbott Fulks. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, Marion E. Garvin, her cherished daughter and son-in-law Jeanne Garvin Howell and Joseph Dan “Danny” Howell Sr, and sisters Martha Hallman, Euphama Jackson and Alice Fay Fulks.
Betty Jean worked for many years as the office manager of RF Truesdel Trucking. A devoted member of Ingleside Baptist Church, she lived her faith through her gentle spirit and unwavering care for those around her. In their later years she lovingly tended to her father in law as well as two of his sisters, her mother and anyone else who needed her. Caring for others was not a duty to Betty Jean—it was part of who she was.
She also found joy in quieter moments. An avid reader and enthusiastic NASCAR fan, she never picked up a book she wouldn’t read, and she treasured the many years she and her family held season tickets to the Daytona 500.
Betty Jean’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate teams at Grace Garden and LifeSpring Church Home in Fort Valley, Georgia, as well as Dominion Senior Living in Athens,TN. Their kindness, support, and loving care provided great comfort to Betty Jean and her family during her final season of life and will always be remembered with deep appreciation.
Betty Jean is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Barry) Wilder of Tellico Plains, TN; grandson, Nicholas (Talisha) Eddy of Augusta, GA; grandson, Jason (Sunni) Kiser of Gray, GA; grandson Kenny Howell of Statesboro, GA; great-granddaughters Peyton Eddy of Augusta, GA; great grand daughters Lexi (Wyade) Kiser and Laci (Ryan) Roughton , both of Gray, Ga.: brother George Harold Fulks of Illinois, and numerous nieces and
