Dorothy Louise Pickett, 89, passed away on July 29, 2023. A Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Church with Rev. Baxter Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Sunday School Class, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.
Dorothy was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Thomas Ray and Myrtle Juanita Payne; and was preceded in death by her brother, John Payne; and sister, Mary Fields. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, a treasurer for Ingleside United Methodist Church, a delegate for the Methodist Conference, and a member of Grace Sunday School Class at Forest Hills Church. Dorothy helped her husband receive his higher education by reading his textbooks to him, transcribed his handwritten papers, and drove him from state to state for his various teaching positions.
She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” A. Pickett; children, Andra Grinstead (Larry), and Rebecca Smith (Steven); grandchildren, Samantha Tumlin (Tyler), Steven, Robert, and Terry Smith; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Tumlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
