Mrs. Emma Lelis “Lee” Jones Broome passed away on May 24, 2017, in the care of Pine Pointe Hospice of Macon. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 3 o’clock, at Houston Road Church, with the Rev. Billy Flowers officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made to Houston Road Church, 6055 Houston Road, Macon, GA 31216.
Mrs. Broome was born on April 2, 1927, to the late Luther Jones and Betrece Jacobs Robbins, in Valdosta, Georgia. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday. Mrs. Broome was a very special aunt to her family and they each gave her such joy. She married her husband, Robert Hall Broome, Jr., in 1951. He served in the 82 Airborne Division of the US Army. After training at Fort Benning Army Base in Columbus, they traveled to Germany before returning to the states and residing in Florida, Alabama, and lastly, Georgia. As a young woman, Mrs. Broome was employed at Robins Air Force Base, and then spent her life as a homemaker. She had a deep love for gardening, cooking and crocheting for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hall Broome, Jr., her brothers, Billy Jones, Edgar Jones, Dan Jones and Bobby Jones.
Survivors include her sister, Jessie “Joy” Gerald, of Chesapeake, VA; brother, Hugh L. Jones, of Macon; sisters in law, Nora Jones and Joanne Lynn, of Macon. Mrs. Broome was cared for by three special friends, Judy Crain, Teresa Thomas, and Dolly, all of Macon. She leaves 14 nieces and 6 nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
