Exelle Herndon Chambers "Mammy", 96, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with a reception to follow. Burial will be private for family in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Joe McDaniel will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beverly Knight Olsen Children's Hospital or the donor's charity of choice.
Exelle was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Gordon and Ruth Whitehead Herndon and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lloyd Chambers; great grandson, Charlie Barrett and several brothers and sisters. She was the Financial Secretary at Mabel White Baptist Church and retired after 25 years of service. The latter years of her life, she was a member of Tattnall Square Baptist Church. Exelle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Exelle was survived by her son, Richard Chambers "Rick" (Annette); granddaughters, Lindsay Tushoski (Troy) and Laura Barrett (Matthew Reid); great grandchildren, Caroline Barrett and Harper Tushoski; brother, Jimmy Herndon; sister-in-law, Evelyn Herndon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the management and staff of Baptist Village for 12 years of loving care and Heartland Hospice and Bolingreen Health & Rehab during her final days.
