

Frances Sheppard Russ, 82, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 13 at 3 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, August 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park.
Mrs. Russ was predeceased by her parents, Naomi Edwards Sheppard Rogers and Marion Riley Sheppard, Sr.; step-father, Paul I. Rogers; brothers, James Wilbur Sheppard, Sr. and Elijah Wendell Sheppard; four half-brothers and three half-sisters.
Mrs. Russ was born at home on a farm in Toombs County, Georgia, but lived most of her life in Macon. She attended Cynthia H. Weir Elementary School and was in the first graduating class of Weir School. She also attended Lanier Junior High for Girls and graduated from A. L. Miller High School in 1949.
She was baptized at Mikado Baptist Church. In 1948, she and her Mother became charter members of Southside Baptist Church, which was a mission church of Mikado. Mrs. Russ served the Lord as church clerk at Southside for over 30 years. She served as Sunday School secretary and prepared the church bulletins for many years.
Mrs. Russ retired from Robins Air Force Base after 34 years of civil service. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Russ is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Mike Dillard of Milledgeville; sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Samuel Richitt of Macon; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Joe Modena of Humboldt, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Katherine McKibben Sheppard of Macon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
