Franklin Churchill Strickland, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 28, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, August 5, 2022. The family will greet friends from noon until service time. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Franklin was born in Corbin, Kentucky to the late Joe and Hazel Strickland and was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, RJ and Dorothy Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Kalman Valastek, Bill Valastek and Howard Harris; sister-in-law, Lee Ann Strickland; nephews, Mike Mitchell and Jay Wilson. He graduated high school from Saint Camillus Academy in Corbin, Kentucky and then earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Math from Eastern Kentucky University. Franklin taught in the Griffin-Spalding County School System, as well as private schools in Monroe County. He also worked as a chemist in the oil and coal fields in Wyoming and Colorado.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving partner, Peggy Zoltak; children and spouses, Christopher Strickland (Tracy) of Littleton, Colorado, Adam Strickland (Griselda) of Morrison, Colorado, and Dr. Beth Bloch (Jess) of Lexington, Kentucky; sisters, Dr. JoAnne Blevins, and June Wilson; brother, Robert Strickland; grandchildren, Lily Strickland and Ivy Strickland; mother of his children, Mary Margaret Strickland.
