Tracy is absolutely correct about Franklin's conversation skills.  He was as much a quizmaster as he was a knowledgeable conversationalist on any topic.  It was always, "Now what would you image if...?" or "how much do you think it would cost to...?" as he introduced new topics.  My sisters & I had traveled to Forsyth one summer and spent the day visiting with Franklin, Peggy, Joanne & June.  Near suppertime, Franklin & I traveled to Captain D's to pick up dinner.  We continued to talk but I was looking around out the window too.  I heard him say "Boy, you're a Great Kisser!"  I was confused, well, sure, he was right, as usual - but he couldn't know that.  When I finally stammered, whaaat?, he realized that I probably had not been paying attention, and repeated, "You're a Great Guesser!"  Yeah - that made more sense! 
 I realized that that was an incredible compliment coming from Franklin and I'm sure I glowed with pride.  He made my day that day.  With his wit and conversation, with his giant bear hugs and hospitality he made my sisters & I feel so welcomed.  
From his nieces and nephews on the Mitchell side of the family, we remember Uncle Franklin so fondly as just "such a great guy".  Taking pictures, sharing rocks and their history, or detailing his latest incredible junk find, he brought everything to life.  You had the best visits with him when he was, once again, trying to cross the country in a broken-down old beater of a vehicle and needed to stop for repairs.  You never knew how long the visit would last but you knew you would enjoy it so much.  
For a life well lived - and on his terms, we love Franklin Strickland.

My father-in-law was always pleasant and easy going and he had a wealth of knowledge to discuss. He would engage you with questions you had to think about and if you didn’t know he would often joyfully discuss the answer with you. I think his teacher side often came through unknowingly, but I had never really seen this as a bad thing as sometimes we all forget to ask the why and how, and he sort of kept that alive when you would spend time with him. Granted he would often ask some tough questions, but he didn’t mind if you didn’t know the answer. He really was a unique individual with his knowledge and stories coupled with his nature of being laid back, he didn’t seem to get upset about much nor did he have a cross word to say. I enjoyed listening to his stories about his college days and growing up with his mom’s homemade biscuits and gravy, which he mentioned fondly from time to time if we were eating anything close to that for breakfast. We were grateful we were able to spend time with him last summer, we didn’t know that would be the very last time. As with any loss of family he will be greatly missed and not forgotten. God willing, may he be reunited with his family in heaven and have eternal and peaceful rest. God Bless you Frank, we’ll miss you.
