Macon, GA – Gerald Spencer Mullis, 91, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Dr. Laudis H. “Rick” Lanford officiating. The family will greet friends following the memorial service. Burial was private in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born on September 14, 1926 in Dublin, GA to the late James and Dollie Mullis. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. Gerald was a faithful member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and was a member of the Marshall Singles Sunday School, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Longshore; son, Jerry Mullis; first wife, Bobbie; second wife, Filomena Mullis; siblings, Arnold Mullis, Lanier Mullis, Thaxton Mullis, Inez Strickland and Janet Naval.
He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1944 then later attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia, and Mercer University where he received his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctorate degree in 1951 from Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. Gerald practiced law for 57 years and co-authored the book, Restatement of the Law of Torts. He helped organize and form the West Macon Volunteer Fire Department in 1959 and served as President in 1960. Gerald was active in square dancing in Macon and served as President of Whirl-Away Club from 1962-1963 and Middle Georgia Federation of Square Dancers President from 1963-1964. He was a member of Macon Legal Aid Society Board of Directors from 1958-1962 and served as National Legal Aid Convention Delegate in 1961, and President of Macon Legal Aid Society in 1962. Gerald was a member of Bibb County Democratic Executive Committee from 1958-1964. He was a member of Macon Community Planning Council from 1961-1963. Gerald was a member of the Macon Toastmasters Club from 1963-1964, member of the Board of Directors of YMCA and Macon Health Club from 1966-1972, Georgia Trial Lawyers Association Vice President 1972-1974, Family Counseling Center of Macon and Middle Georgia Board of Directors from 1973-1980, Macon/Bibb County Crisis Line from 1983-1990 and President in 1985 and 1986, Macon ACT Community Theater Board of Directors from 1979-1982 and Vice President in 1981, member and organizer of Family Circle Players Theater from 1977-1986, and the Edmar Foundation.
His memory will forever be treasured by his family and faithful friends. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Maxwell (Rick) and Marjorie Mullis; grandchildren, Sheree Hyde (Jason), Cliff Longshore, Spencer Maxwell (Betty)and Mallory Forrester (Ty); great grandchildren, Logan Price, Jacob Hyde, Sophia Hyde, and Sierra Longshore; stepchildren, Mark Campbell (Joy) and Jennifer Wingen (Werner) and son-in-law, Bryant Longshore.
