He worked in construction all his life and was a “jack of all trades.” He worked with his father, learning to paint and build. He worked as a teenager building houses, worked for Acousti of Macon for many years and for Schell Acoustical and Drywall for the last seven years before retiring due to health problems. He was General Superintendent at both companies.
Throughout his lifetime, Hugh always helped others as much as possible. He worked on many service projects for the church, the Christmas in April program, and Neighbors Helping Neighbors programs. He would do repairs on church members’ and neighbors’ houses at no charge. He liked the scripture, “When you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.” Hugh loved everybody and treated them with love.
He often said his greatest blessings were joining the church and becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ, and meeting his wife, whom he loved with all his heart. He loved his children and grandchildren and felt they were blessings from God.
