

James Isham Carter, 86, surrounded by his family at home, joined his Heavenly Father Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Loran Smith will officiate. The family will meet friends from 5 - 7p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Lizella United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 950, Lizella, GA 31052 or to the American Diabetes Association Regional Office, Suite C-236, 5105 Paulsen Street, Savannah, GA 31405.
Mr. Carter, son of the late Dowse Bradwell Carter and Susie Kate Marshall Carter, was born in Milledgeville and had lived in Crawford County most of his life. He served with the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre on Guam. After his discharge, he worked at Macon Naval Ordnance Plant for nineteen years and for several years, worked at Maxson Electronics. Mr. Carter was a lifelong farmer and in the 90's, was very honored to be named as Crawford County Soil Conservationist of the Year. He was a member of the Georgia Cattleman's Association. He was awarded the Joslin Diabetic Center's (Boston, MA) Bronze Medal for successfully managing insulin dependency for fifty-six years. Mr. Carter was a longtime member of Lizella United Methodist Church where he was active in the life of his church.
Survivors include the family he cherished, his wife with whom he recently celebrated their Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary, Emily Huff Carter of Lizella; his children, Cynthia Mincey (David) of Macon and Michael J. Carter (Janet) of Knoxville; his granddaughter, Amy Reynolds (Jimbo) of Lizella; his great grandsons, Justin Reynolds and Josh Reynolds of Lizella; his step grandsons, Devin Cruse of Kennesaw and Cody Cruse of Knoxville.
