

James Lamar Mimbs, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 23, 2026. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Paster Jeff Dean officiating. Family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Mimbs was born in Macon on March 18, 1938, to Green Daniel and Latha Inez Wright Mimbs. He was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Lanier High School and attended college in Pasadena, California. He became a contractor and ran his own business prior to retirement. He went on to work for the Bibb County Sherriff’s department as a Bailiff guarding the employee entrance. He greatly enjoyed greeting and talking with the court employees and was grateful he had the opportunity to work part-time. Illness did cause him to leave his position in 2024, but he continued to talk about the great people he worked with as well as his responsibilities.
Mr. Mimbs married Martha Francis Brown on January 21, 1960. He and Martha raised three girls. He was a faithful man of God ensuring his daughters were brought up with a strong Christian foundation. He and Martha had a forty-five year marriage until her death in 2005.
James leaves behind two loving daughters, Bonita Yvonne (Lester) Peavy, and Sharon Elizabeth (Stewart) Bromley and one son-in-law Steve Smith, five grandchildren, Lee Burge (Brandy), Dee Dee Shipp (Josh), Ricky Peavy (Kristi), Sara Bromley Pulliam (John), and Samuel Rexford Bromley. He also leaves behind nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his companion Sadie Hall who has brought him much joy over the last two years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Mimbs, daughter, Deborah Ann Smith, his parents and siblings.
The family thanks Pruitt Wesleyan and Family Hospice for their care of him. Donations may be made to Family Hospice Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
