

Jerry M. Hastings, 86, died July 7, after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at Macon Memorial Park Chapel on Tuesday, July 10 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Neal Wall officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The visitation will be on Monday, July 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jerry a native of Spartanburg, SC, lived in the Macon area for 65 years. He served honorably in the U. S Navy during WWII and was stationed on the USS Bingham. After the Navy he joined the work force at Robins AFB. In 1947 he became a member of the Macon-Bibb County Fire department and retired as a District Chief after 42 years of service. He loved working for the citizens of Macon and Bibb County. He truly appreciated and enjoyed the special comradery he established with his fellow firefighters.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Jake Hastings of Spartanburg SC, Gene Hastings of Lubbock, TX and sister Rebecca Robinson of Macon.
Jerry became a member of the Baptist faith at Shurlington Baptist Church. He was a 32 degree Mason. An avid sports fan, he rarely missed an Atlanta Braves or Georgia Bulldog game. Golf was his passion.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years Frances Hastings; children, Pamela Kilgore and Steve (Linda) Hastings; Grandchildren, Kara (Zac) Self, Benjamin (Anna) Kilgore, Ashley Hastings; Step Grandchildren, Bo Harrell and Chrissy (Darryn)Berryhill; four great granddaughters; and Brother-in-law Asa (Sue) Whitfield.
