Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice & Palliative Care.
Born on July 21, 1938, Joan was the daughter of John G. and Louise Simmons and had three loving siblings, Gene (Linda), Jeanette (James) and Gary (Diane). Joan was full of energy, happiness, and most of all, Love. She was a competitive athlete in both softball and tennis, where she made countless friends. She, like her mother, was an avid gardener and was a member of Thornwood and Pine Ridge Garden Clubs. She was also a member of the Macon Tennis Association as well as the Cherry Blossom Chapter 2142 NARFE.
Joan played a vital role at Avondale Baptist Church, serving as the Youth Director for several years. When Joan finally decided to retire from the position, the church leaders earnestly begged her not to retire as the children adored her. Joan, ever being the generous and giving soul, agreed to stay in the position.
But above all of her many passions, none were as great as the pride and joy she had for her five sons: Jerry, John, Jeff, Joe and Jason. She cared for them like only a Mother could, loved each of them unconditionally and proudly won the “Most Children in Church” award, year after year. After raising five boys, she proudly welcomed four granddaughters into her life – it was about time for some girls! Later, she lovingly welcomed three great grandchildren into her life.
Joan and her late husband of 52 years, General Hugh L. Neisler, represented what could only be described as The Perfect Marriage. Joan and Hugh were a social, charming, giving and loving couple who brought joy and happiness to any room they entered. Hugh lovingly referred to Joan as his “Madam Queen” while she called Hugh, “The Love of Her Life”.
Mom leaves this world a better place because of her unconditional love. If you knew her, consider yourself a truly lucky person. We love you Mom.
Survivors include her four sons, John (Robin), Jeff (Elizabeth) and Joe Neisler, all of Macon and Jason Neisler (Kim) of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Rhama, Rebecca, Mary Elizabeth and Caroline Grace Neisler and three great grandchildren, Rajah, Jaz and Harley; Brother-in-Law Charles Neisler (Sue) and Sister-in-Law Jean Neisler. Joan was predeceased by her husband Hugh (2009) and her son Jerry (2015).
The Family would like to extend a special gratitude to Pine Pointe Hospice & Palliative Care, Baptist Village Retirement Community and Zebulon Park Health & Rehabilitation for their special care of Joan.
