Mr. John Ernest “JE” Hammonds, Jr., 76, died Saturday morning, May 18, 2013. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 20 at 2 o’clock in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Bobo will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock. Mr. Hammonds was the son of the late John Ernest and Gertrue Veatrice Roper Hammonds, Sr. He was born in Atlanta, GA, and later moved to South Macon, where he graduated from Lanier High School. Mr. Hammonds served his country in the United States Navy, and later worked as a car salesman. He enjoyed gardening and construction work. Mr. Hammonds was preceded in death by a son, Keith Hammonds.
Surviving Mr. Hammonds are his sons, Johnny Hammonds, Charlie Hammonds, and Jeff Hammonds; daughters, Kimberly Hammonds and Ashley; 7 grandchildren; sisters, Veatrice (Otis) Garrett, Marie (Donald) Chumley; brothers, Clyde Hammonds, Lee (Mary Jo) Hammonds, Clayton (Carolyn) Hammonds; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Kobec.
