

Larry Eugene Smallwood, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 8, 2026. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon GA 31204. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Ralph Hawkins officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association,140 A, Northside Drive, Macon GA 31210 or donors’ favorite charity.
Larry was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Charles A. and Eleanor Suddeth Smallwood. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Harper, brother, Charles Smallwood and sister-in-law, Pam Smallwood. Larry was a graduate of Lanier High School class of 1968 and was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He retired after forty-four years of service with the Macon Bibb County Fire Department as the Fire Prevention Chief retiring in 2015. Larry throughout his career played a major role in fire prevention and life safety education, helping protect countless lives through inspection, code enforcement and community outreach. He received an award in 1991 Keep Macon Bibb Beautiful Cherry Blossom Festival, and 2011 Macon Exchange Club Award and President of the Fire Inspectors in 2018, and he was awarded the 2018 State Fire Inspector by Governor Brian Kemp and he was the Fire Marshal at Mercer University Athletic Department. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, granddad, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Kathy Dover Smallwood of Macon, daughters, Amy (Matt) Garvin of Macon, Kelly (Will) Collins of Macon, six granddaughters, Matilyn Garvin of Auburn, AL, Colleen Garvin and Ansley Garvin, Sydney Collins, Libby Collins, and Milly Collins all of Macon, brother, Mike (Sharon) Smallwood of Macon, and several nieces and nephews.
