Lester Vincent Rooney

BYRON – Lester “Pistol” Rooney, 62, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Pastor Daryl Robinson and Rev. Bruce McLaughlin will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6 until 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the family. The family may also be contacted at the residence.

Mr. Rooney was the son of the late Harold Vincent Rooney and Hester Mae Bridges Rooney. He was a sergeant with the Macon Police Department, a deputy with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and was a United States Navy veteran having been an E3-Seaman. Mr. Rooney was a member of the New Life Worship Center, the F.O.P. and the P.B.A.

Mr. Rooney is survived by his wife, Lynn Maddox Rooney of Byron; sons, Harold Vincent (Melinda) Rooney, II of Knoxville, GA, Jonathan Keith Rooney of Byron, and PFC Richard J. Rooney of Byron; grandchildren, Harold Vincent Rooney, III, Ashley Lynn Rooney, and Kayne Boaz Rooney; sister, Charlene Rooney Banks; nieces, Tammy (Chris) Ward, Debbie Leslie, Nikki Banks (Brian) McCullum; numerous other family members and friends.
